Working closely with our client, Healthcare Design & Construction, we were involved in managing the planning and installation of an industrial HVAC and exhaust system, as well as controls for Providence St. Joseph Hospital’s NICU and Mother-Baby Unit – the first of its kind in Orange County, California. The level 2 neonatal intensive care unit required an all-new HVAC solution while the Mother-Baby Unit was part of a demolition of an existing 4th floor north wing and required the installation of a new Energy Labs air handler and Carrier chiller, as well as an exhaust system specifically designed to create a “baby-friendly” environment.
Both environments within the hospital were extremely critical and required that our teams worked around staff schedules as well as collaborating with other trades to ensure we would not disturb other patient areas of the hospital.
The projects in both the NICU and the Mother-Baby Unit at St. Joseph Hospital were part of the baby-friendly hospital initiative – a global effort undertaken by the World Health Organization and United Nations Children’s Fund. This made the successful partnership even more rewarding as we were able to deliver the newest high-quality neonatal and mother-baby services in Orange County.
